Missing Game Sheets:
12-5:    West Fargo United  at  East Grand Forks     [Girls]
12-14:  Jamestown  at  Devils Lake     [Girls]

Jamestown  =  1
Devils Lake  =  3

Devils Lake used two point games from Kylie Klemetsrud [2-Goals], Elle Black [2-Assists] and Ashton Wold [2-assists] to move the Firebirds to [3-4]-Overall and in the Girls State Standings.  The Firebirds have not made a state tournament since the first one held in 2003-04 when they finished 8th place in the conference.  Right now they have 9-Points in the league and are 6-points ahead of the 9th place team so tonights win over Jamestown moves the Firebirds into 6th Place.  Jamestown received its' lone goal by Sydney Soulis and the Blue Jays dropped to [0-6]-Overall and [0-4]-League.

1310 AM KNOX will be broadcasting the G.F. Central [3-0-1] at G.F. Red River [4-0] Boys High School Hockey Game Tonight.  Ryan Cunningham will be on the play-by-play with pre-game to begin at 7:05 pm and face-off at Purpur Arena at 7:30 pm.

Many key games on tap tonight in Boys and Girls High School Hockey

Ten games are to be played involving North Dakota Boys and Girls teams tonight.  Some are very big games as far as the standings goes and one is the battle of Grand Forks where G.F. Central [3-0-1] plays G.F. Red River [4-0].  The Riders lost all three games to Central last year so they will be looking to knock off the Knights and get ahead in the East Region by 4-points.  While this game is being played, Fargo Davies [2-0-1] will be at Grafton/Park River [4-0].  The Spoilers are back in the upper half of the East Region where they have not been for the last couple years.  They have a very strong Davies team who went 0-0 against Central last week.  The Spoilers can solidify themselves into the top spot with a win while Davies can give the Spoilers a region loss while they improve to [3-0-1] with a win in the conference.  Over in the West Region, Bismarck Century [3-0] heads to Jamestown [2-1] with a chance to defeat another top four team in the West Region.  Century has defeated Dickinson, Minot and now has a chance to give Jamestown two region losses.  For Jamestown they have a chance to knock off one of the hottest teams in the state and move to [3-1]-Region.  While Bismarck High and Century do not meet until after the new year, each team wants to keep their undefeated mark in the conference in tact.  In the Girls League, Fargo Davies [4-2] plays West Fargo United [4-1] involving two top five teams in the league. West Fargo United just beat Fargo North/South and now get Davies who is a team that can compete with any of the upper teams in the conference. A loss by Davies would put them at [4-3] in the conference and trail a few teams by two games.  Couple other games being played involving teams at the bottom end of the conference with hope of getting points to move up the standings ladder include Fargo South/Shanley [1-3] at Devils Lake [1-2].  Devils Lake was upended by West Fargo earlier in the week and are getting a Bruins team that is searching for a win after dropping their last three straight region games.  Fargo North [0-4] at West Fargo [1-2] is an interesting match-up as West Fargo picked up its' first region win against Devils Lake while North has played a schedule is almost unheard of so they are very battle tested heading into this contest.  Williston [2-4] at Mandan [1-6] in Girls Hockey is very important especially since Devils Lake is off to such a great start in the conference.  Williston can move to [3-4] with a win and put a farther gap from the current bottom three teams [Mandan, Dickinson and Jamestown].  Mandan can get back into the top eight race with a win while a loss will really put the Braves in a tough situation as we near the mid point of the season.  Dickinson Boys will host Billings, Montana in a non-conference game as will Fargo North/South Girls who host Chaska, MN.  Hazen/Beulah Boys will travel to Bottineau/Rugby for a non-conference game.   Good Luck to all players and coaches and check back later tonight for all the results and updates.

All Region and Overall Boy's Coaches Polls can be found by clicking on the Coaches Poll Tab as well as the Girls State Poll.

Bismarck Century is Head Coaches choice to win the West Region
Bismarck Century earned 7-First Place votes from the 9-West Region Head Coaches.  The Patriots were picked first followed by Minot [1-First Place Vote] and Bismarck High [1-First Place Vote] and tied with 54 points came in a tie for second place.  Dickinson edged out Jamestown for fourth in the poll by one point as the Midgets had 40 points and Jamestown had 39.  Mandan was a solid 6th Place with 28-points followed by Williston in 7th Place [19-points] , Bottineau/Rugby in 8th Place [18-Points] and Hazen/Beulah [9-Points].  The Northstars will automatically finish as the 9th Place team in the West Region and will travel to the #8 Seed for the West Region Play-In Game as they will play a J.V. Schedule/Non-Conference Schedule up until West Region Tournament time in February.  Due to the lateness of the poll I do not have the highlights as I did for the East Region and Girls divisions so I apologize but wanted to get posted prior to season starting tonight.

Central and Red River each earn 4 first place votes in East Region Poll
The East Region Coaches are split on which Grand Forks school will win the East Region title this year as both Central and Red River earned four first place votes of the nine votes cast.  Fargo Davies earned the only other first place vote.  Central [27-0-0] last season and state champions will look to repeat but lost many players to graduation so we will see how the Knights fill in the holes with players like Grant Johnson and Judd Caulfield.  Kaleb Johnson returns in goal who posted a 1.33-GAA with a 91.7-SV% for the Knights.  Red River [23-4-0] who was defeated by Bismarck High in overtime in the state semi finals ended up taking 3rd at state also lost many players to graduation.  Mason Salquist [13-30-43] returns for the Riders as does goalie Nate Bradbury [1.73-GAA, 92.0-SV%] as they look to challenge their cross town rivals as well as try get back on top in the state.  Fargo Davies [18-9-0] won the Consolation Championship at state last year and return Jay Buchholz [12-18=30] and goaltender Jared Winter [2.18-GAA, 93.1-SV%].  Davies returns 3 of their top 4 scorers from last years 18-win team so this program could be the wild card in the East Region race and state championship run.  Fargo North gained some support in the poll after finishing last year [5-18-1], the Spartans are picked to finish fourth in the East Region just one point ahead of Fargo South/Shanley [11-12-1].  The Spartans return their top four scorers from last years team as well as Ryley Pladson in net who posted an 88.9-SV% while facing 695 shots.  The Bruins graduated their top six scorers as well as their goalie so this roster may be a mystery until some games are played.  Devils Lake [16-10-0] loses 3 of their top 4 scorers returning Carson Lovin [14-16=30] but also lost star goalie Wyatt Ness which will be the question mark for the Firebirds heading into the new year.  West Fargo Sheyenne and West Fargo are each having a team this year instead of one West Fargo Team so this will be the early watch for me.  What will each team look like and how will the rosters shake out.  Sheyenne looks to have a very senior loaded team with only a few Junior's and Sophomore's on the roster.  The Packers prior to this years split finished last season with a [3-19-1]-Overall Record.  Grafton/Park River [4-19-0] will have former coaching staff member Scott Robideaux back behind the bench but this time as a Head Coach.  The Spoilers have 4 of their top 5 scorers from last season back as well as two of their main goalies back.  Will the Spoilers regain their tradition and be back in the top four of the region and fight for a return to the state tournament?  The coaches have them picked 8th ahead of West Fargo and behind W.F. Sheyenne.  This year, the East Region will have nine teams which means we will have a Play-in Game between the 8th and 9th Place teams with the right to travel to the East Region Number one seed to open the East Region Tournament.  The poll results can be found by going to the Coaches Poll Tab located on the top of the homepage.

Bismarck picked as top team by states Head Coaches in Pre-Season Poll
The Bismarck Blizzard won last years North Dakota girls 2017 State Championship while finishing with a [22-3-1]-Overall Record and a 3-0 shutout over the tournaments #6 Seed Grand Forks.  This year the coaches again tabbed Bismarck as the preseason favorite but only 6 Head Coaches gave them the top spot while 5 Head Coaches are picking Fargo North/South to win the title.  Last year, Bismarck was picked by 8 coaches in the pre-season poll to be the top team at years end.  With Britta Curl [Bismarck] [41-23=64] returning for her Senior season and all three goalies returning for the Blizzard Lauren Watkins [1.22-GA 92.1-SV%], Skylar Ackerman [1.76-GA  90.2-SV%] and Aurora Johnson [2.00-GA 88.0-SV%]  it is easy to see why many have Bismarck to repeat again this season.  Fargo North/South, who went [20-6-0] last year but were upset in the quarterfinals by Mandan at state are hungry to battle Bismarck this season.  They will have their top two scorers back in Graysen Myers [28-18=46] and Anna Erickson [14-23=37] along with goaltenders Kaylee Caspers [1.65-GA, 92.1-SV%] & Lauren Harr [1.66-GA, 89.0-SV%]Rounding out the top five in the poll are West Fargo [15-10-0], Fargo Davies [16-10-0] and Minot [17-8-0].  West Fargo received 77 points with Davies earning 71 points.  Minot had 65 points with Grand Forks right behind them at 62 points.  Mandan came in at 7th with 42 points followed by Williston with 37 points.  Dickinson is 9th at 28 points, Jamestown with 20 points and Devils Lake at 13 points.  The league race will give us an early indication on Tuesday as 10 of the 11 teams are in league play as the Girls season begins.  Bismarck will watch the scores come in Tuesday as they are idle.  Williston and Dickinson face-off in a key early game with Grand Forks and Fargo Davies matchup in a key game.  Minot will travel to Mandan for an interesting matchup while West Fargo plays Devils Lake and Jamestown faces Fargo North/South.  The entire Girls Coaches Poll can be found by going to the Coaches Poll Link on the top of the Home Page.  Good luck to all eleven teams as we sort out the 8 teams that will participate in the state tournament at the Ralph Engelstad Arena at the end of February in Grand Forks.
