G.F. Central earns (15) First Place Votes in the annual pre-season coaches poll conducted by Bob Gillen of ndhighschoolhockey.com to earn the pre-season #1 Ranked team in the state as the season begins today

Grand Forks Central finished last season state champions with a win over Bismarck Century in the title game while finishing the year with an [24-1-2]-Overall Record.  That resume has earned the respect of the state head coaches as the Knights are the heavy favorite to repeat this season as Central picked up 510 points in the annual pre-season coaches poll and 15 of 17 votes cast.  The Knights cross-town rival Grand Forks Red River earned the other 2-first place votes in the poll and came in second overall in the state with 452 points.  The Riders were beaten by the Knights at state last year but went onto to finish 3rd at state and finished 2017-18 with a [21-4-2]-Overall Record.  Fargo Davies came in third in this years pre-season poll with 442 points.  The Eagles finished 4th at state last season and had an overall record of [20-5-2] but lost to G.F. Red River in the third place game.  Bismarck Century comes in at #4 in the state pre-season coaches poll with 432 points and is the top West Region Team.  The Patriots, who played in their first state championship last season, are looking to get back to the title game again this season.  The Patriots finished the 2017-18 campaign with a [22-5-0]-Overall Record.  Bismarck High rounds out the top five in the state coaches poll with 412 points.  The Demons went onto win the Consolation Championship last year after losing to G.F. Red River in the opening round of the state tournament. Bismarck High went [19-8-0]-Overall last season and are picked behind their cross town rivals Century in the West Region to begin the season.  Minot High-320 poll points came in 6th with Fargo South/Shanley finishing at 7th with 314 points in the poll.  Fargo North had 278 poll points to claim the #8 ranking in the state poll while Dickinson came in at #9 and a total of 264 poll points.  The top ten was rounded out by Devils Lake who earned 236 poll points.  The complete state boys coaches poll can be found by going to the Coaches Poll above.  Hazen/Beulah will not play in the West Region again this year and will enter the West Region Tournament as the #9 Seed and automatically play in the Play-In Game as part of the West Region Tournament.  Mayville-Portland will enter the East Region this year come East Region Tournament time but like Hazen/Beulah will play an independent schedule during the season and enter the East Region Tournament as the #10 Seed and play-off against the #7-Seed while the #8 Seed will play against the #9 Seed with both winners advancing the the East Region Tournament that will determine the four teams to advance from the East Region to the State Tournament be held in Fargo this year the last weekend in February.


Bismarck Century and Grand Forks Central are the pre-season choices of the region head coaches to win the West and East Region Conferences respectively

Bismarck Century earned 5 of the 8 First Place Votes in the West Region Coaches Poll conducted by Bob Gillen of ndhighschoolhockey.com.  The Patriots earned 108 Poll Points while Bismarck High finished just six points back of Century in the poll with 102 Poll Points and also picked up the other 3 First Place Votes.  Dickinson and Minot High tied for 3rd and 4th in the poll with 82 points.  Jamestown came in at #5 with 56 points while Mandan was close behind the Bluejays with 50 Poll Points and a #6 region rank.  Bottineau/Rugby finished in 7th with 42 Poll Points.  Williston rounded out the poll with 38 points and a pre-season West Region Ranking of #8.  Hazen/Beulah will play an independent schedule and take the #9-Seed into the West Region Tournament.

Grand Forks Central took [8 of 9] First Place Votes and a total of 128 Poll Points.  Grand Forks Red River received the remaining First Place Vote and came in at #2 in the East Region Pre-Season Poll with 108 Poll Points.  Fargo Davies finished in third with 106 Poll Points with Fargo South/Shanley and Fargo North ending up in a tie with 70 Poll Points for 4th and 5th places.  6th seed belongs to Grafton/Park River as the season begins as the Spoilers earned 62 Poll Points.  Devils Lake finishes in 7th place to start the season with 48 Poll Points and West Fargo Packers are #8 and earned 38 Poll Points.  West Fargo Sheyenne rounds out the East Region Poll with 18 Poll Points and starts the season as the #9 Seed in the East.  Mayville-Portland will compete as an independent until East Region Tournament time where they will enter as the #10 Seed and play at the #7 Seed in one of two East Region Play-In Games.

Fargo North/South was beat last year in the state championship game by Bismarck, but the Girls Head Coaches are picking North/South to be the front runner to win this years championship.  North/South earned 8 of 11 first pace votes of the coaches and a total of 196 points in the recent poll which was 16 better than Bismarck who finished second with 180 points and 3 first place votes.  No other team received a first place vote in the poll.  Fargo Davies came in third with 162 points as the Eagles finished 4th at state a year ago.  West Fargo United is the 4th place finisher in the poll as they earned 148 points.  West Fargo United took home 3rd place honors last year at state as they defeated Fargo Davies.  Grand Forks is ranked 5th in the pre-season poll with 128 points after qualifying for state last year but did not place.  Minot is in at 6th in the poll with 108 points.  Minot finished 6th at state last year.  Dickinson is at 7th place with 96 points and is a team on the rise after winning the Consolation Championship last year at state.  Mandan comes in at 8th place with 76 points.  Mandan also qualified for state last year but did not place.  Devils Lake finished 9th in the poll with 44 points.  The Firebirds did not qualify for state last year and are looking to try get to Fargo this season.  Williston is in at 10th place with 40 points and also did not qualify for state last year.  Jamestown rounds out the poll with 32 points and is ranked 11th.  Jamestown was a young team last year and has most all of its team back.  The full poll and teams last seasons records overall and in the conference can be found by going to the Coaches Poll Tab above.
